Secret Spider

The year is 298 After Aegon’s Conquest. The place is King’s Landing, the capital of Westeros. King Robert has just died in a hunting accident. The Lannisters are running the country from the Royal Court in the Red Keep. In “Secret Spider”, players are members of the Small Council attempting to keep the fragile Lannister rule in place and protect it from rebellions and upheavals. Watch out though – there are secret Council members among you who are illoyal towards the Lannisters. And one of them is Varys, the Spider, whose intrigues can throw Westeros into chaos.

Overview of the game

“Secret Spider” is a game of intrigues and treason in the world of George R.R. Martin’s “Game of Thrones”. Five to seven players emerge themselves in the world of Westeros and try to win the fight for the Iron Throne.
At the beginning of the game, each player is secretly assigned to one of three roles: Lannister, Disloyals or Varys. The Lannisters have a majority, but they don’t know for sure who is on their side and who isn’t. The Disloyals must resort to secrecy and sabotage to accomplish their goals. Varys plays for the Disloyals, and they know Varys’ identity from the outset, but Varys doesn’t know the Disloyals and must work to figure them out.
The Lannisters win by securing the King’s Peace five times and save Westeros from a rebellion or by killing Varys. The Disloyals win by stirring up six Dances of Dragons, wreaking havoc on Westeros, or if Varys is elected Hand of the King after three Dances of Dragons have taken place.

Both sides of the game board of Secret Spider show the spots where the players put their cards. It also features a track to keep record of the number of Small Council’s decisions.

After a rebellion (Dance of Dragons), the acting King becomes more powerful and is granted a singleuse power which must be used before the next round can begin. It doesn’t matter what team the King is on; in fact, even Lannister players might be tempted to stir up a Dance of Dragons to gain new powers
and exercise them.

Where do I get the game?

“Secret Spider” is totally free. Just right-click the following buttons and pick “Save as…” (If you need the rules in German, click here.)

The files are in PDF-format. It’s a good idea to print the material on strong paper (120 g). Some pages have to be printed more than once. This is marked on the appropriate pages.

Support the artist

“Secret Spider” is absolutely free of charge. If anyone sold you the game, they ripped you off! The drawing and production process of the game has taken a long time and included a huge amount of work. If you want to say thanks and voluntarily donate a little amount of money to support me financially and see more cool things in the future; I’d be extremely happy about it.

The game “Secret Spider” is a variant of “Secret Hitler” by Mike Boxleiter, Tommy Maranges, Max Temkin, and Mac Schubert. The game is licenced under a Creative Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercialShareAlike 4.0 International Licence.
You can find the original game here: http://www.secrethitler.com/
You can get a commercial version there playing in the Germany of the 1920s, which has absolutely nothing to do with “Game of Thrones”.
If you want to change or work on the game you are free to do so, but you are not allowed to use it commercially and you also have to refer back to me as the original artist.
