Once you understand the principle behind three-dimensional paper cuts, they are not difficult to create at all. It depends on how complicated the motif is, though. There are a lot of websites and tutorials which explain, how you can make your own simple cards. There is even a free Windows programme, called “Pop-Up-Card Generator”, that helps you to create quite intricate 3D paper models.
The 3D paper cut “Heaven and Hell”, which you can see among other pieces in my paperworks gallery, is a mirrored A3 artwork. You can turn it on its “Heaven” or “Hell” side, depending on your mood. If you look closely at the original design drawing below, you’ll find that it is mirrored exactly in the middle. I only had to design one half of the paper cut and used a copier to mirror it. I then drew the little angel and demon characters onto the copy and cut them out of the paper.
